Rebecca - Farmer's daughter, farmer's wife, mother of rural boys, Jackson QLD
My picture of the struggle in farmer mental health is:
Isolation both physical and from supporting services, the feeling of having to be resilient and tough all the time, trying to get our own start and create our own farming identity separate to that of our previous generations, alcohol culture.
Some of the glimmer/joyful moments that reflect farmer mental health for me:
Dinner by the fire! Camping out, the satisfaction of finishing a hard days work as a team processing cattle, seeing our boys live free range/work cattle/ride motorbikes/ learn to trust themselves.
A little more about Rebecca:
Farming is woven into my whole life and identity! We don’t own a farm… we hope to one day! We live rurally and support the farm owner. My off-farm identify is a Clinical Nurse. I really want people to understand farmers mental health is just about the bloke… it’s about the women, kids and family too!
