Lucy Etheridge - Farmer, Yarra Valley VIC
My picture of the struggle in farmer mental health is:
Feeling the need to prove myself to navigate machinery, seasons, industry trends and decision making in a male dominated sector and then turning up and opting-in to wrap my wings around family, friends and my children with calm, softness, interest and energy. Inspired, capable but always knackered and feeling behind the 8ball :)
Some of the glimmer/joyful moments that reflect farmer mental health for me:
Getting involved with industry groups has helped validate my knowledge and my commitment to what I do. I am slowly learning to value what I can bring to help inspire others and to ensure young people are given space and opportunity to grow in our Ag sector too. The support network of women in my life but also the fellas, particularly my dad, in the Ag sector give me a space to learn, lean and have a laugh.
A little more about Lucy:
Living and working on the family farm; growing beef, lamb, wine grapes and accommodation in the beautiful Yarra Valley! Giving voice to women in Ag and the awesome things we achieve, endure, contribute and grow is important. Thank you for providing a platform for women to see others just like them and for showing the broader community how awesome women in Australian Ag settings are.
